Electrochemical Studies of the Corrosion Behavior of Al/SiC/PKSA Hybrid Composites in 3.5% NaCl Solution

The corrosion behavior of metal matrix composites (MMCs) is accelerated by the inclusion reinforcements. Hence, this study investigates MMCs produced from Al 6063 alloy with reinforcement particulates silicon carbide (SiC) and palm kernel shell ash (PKSA) at different mix ratios. were synthesized using double stir casting technique. behaviors in NaCl solutions studied via gravimetric analysis electrochemical measurements. showed fluctuating dissolution rate samples solution to indicate flawed film as well product formation over surface specimens. observed mechanism was general pitting corrosion. presence reinforcements within Al6063 acted active sites for initiation. range values Ecorr Icorr obtained 3.5% 24 h between −220.62 −899.46 mV 5.45 40.87 µA/cm2, respectively, while 72 h, ranged 255.88 −887.28 mV, 7.19 16.85 µA/cm2. Nyquist Bode plots revealed under investigation, predominant reactions on linked charge transfer processes. relative resistance depends thin oxide formed samples.
